Why Use This Calculator?
Every year, thousands of perfect sofas get returned for one unglamorous reason: they never made it past the front door. This calculator checks both failure points before checkout — room fit by dimension, and doorway passage by the furniture's narrowest profile.
The doorway check matters more than people expect: an 84-inch sofa that fits the room still has to arrive at an angle, and many hallways and stair turns are tighter than the door itself. Measure the whole path, not just the entrance.
How It Works
- Measure the room's length, width, and ceiling height.
- Measure the furniture listing's width, depth, and height.
- Enter the narrowest doorway on the delivery path for the passage check.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my sofa fit through a 30-inch door?
Only if its depth or height — whichever can go through sideways — is under about 30 inches minus the frame. Most sofa depths (35–40 inches) don't pass flat; the calculator compares the narrowest dimension to your door.
How much clearance should furniture have around it?
Leave 30 inches for walkways, 36 inches where people pass each other, and 18 inches between a sofa and coffee table. The tool reports leftover floor space to plan against.
What about stairs and hallways?
They're the real trap — measure the narrowest point of the whole route, including stair turns and ceiling heights on landings. The door check is a floor, not a guarantee.
Tips & Things to Watch
- The furniture's box is bigger than the furniture — check the box dimensions too.
- Removable legs turn some 'impossible' sofas into easy fits.
- Sketch the delivery path with all measurements before ordering big pieces.
